WAGGL Results 31st March 2012

Slick greens and sunny skies greeted a field of 8 players at Hillview GC for the 8th round of the year.

On a day where some players clubs flew straighter than their balls, and their chances of winning the “Spirit of WAGGL” award disappeared quicker than their 5 iron, WAGGL welcomed back Stuart ‘Crusher’ Shober for his 2nd round and first timer Matty ‘Bruiser’ Hillhouse. With Bruiser kicking off his WAGGL career in style with a tidy birdie on the 1st, was it luck? Or was it the skater boy shoes? Only time will tell.

An unusually poor and frustrating start from one of WAGGLs lowest handicappers resulted in one of the funniest moments of the front 9 with his 5 iron coming to rest 20m up a tree on the 2nd hole. After a few futile attempts at dislodging it with an aluminum drink bottle, Robbo was left to play the remaining holes with only 13 clubs at his disposal (pardon the pun)

With the slapstick comedy out of the way, and 6 of the 8 competitors having an inconsistent day it was left to Mitre and Smudge to battle it out for handicap and lowest off the stick honours. An entertaining tussle ensued on the back 9, with some monster drives from Mitre, and several long range draino’s from Smudge as well as some classic scramble play, saw Smudge prevail with an 85 off the stick to win by 5 strokes from Mitre. Being Mitre’s first round for the year, you would have to say a win or two won’t be far away.

CTP honours for the day went to 2nd gamer Crusher, with a sweetly struck shot that pulled up 14ft short of the pin on the 158m 8th hole, which netted him $20 and his first RTB points. ‘Longest’ Drive was taken out by Jason ‘Darth’ Desilva with an accurate if not careful 95m bomb! Darth also picked up a lobster and his first taste of RTB points. Well done lads.

No Leaderboard available as some WAGGLers are proving quite technology challenged.
